Nicholas Coley was born in Connecticut and raised in Muir Beach, California. He has a BA in painting from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington and has also studied art at L’ecole des Beaux Arts in Aix-en-Provence and at the Marchutz school in Le Tholonet, France.
A plein air painter, Coley has painted during his travels in Europe, notably selling his paintings on the Charles Bridge in Prague and the Campo San Polo in Venice. Coley lived in a Buddhist monastery in France for a year and has traveled throughout Russia and China.
He has had a number of solo shows at ArtZone 461 Gallery in San Francisco. He has also exhibited at Mondavi Winery (Napa, CA), Cannessa Gallery (San Francisco, CA), de Saisset Museum, Santa Clara University (Santa Clara, CA), Thomas Reynolds Gallery (San Francisco, CA), and Charles Campbell Gallery (San Francisco, CA).
